Three Children Killed in West Dallas Crash

Three children were killed by a speeding driver in West Dallas last week. Dallas police say that they will refer the case to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office against the speeding driver involved in the crash.
According to investigators, Xavier Taylor was speeding westbound on Singleton in a Nissan Sentra when he hit a Dodge Stratus. The Stratus allegedly pulled out in front of the speeding Nissan. The Stratus was driven by Maricela Mendoza, and her four children were inside. Three of her children were wearing seatbelts in the backseat and were killed upon impact. Mendoza and her oldest child survived the crash and are recovering in the hospital. The driver of the Nissan was also hospitalized but is expected to survive.
Unfortunately, thousands of people are killed in the U.S. every year because of speeding cars. Not only does speeding make it harder for a vehicle to stop, it also makes a vehicle harder to control and increases the distance that it takes to stop. When motorists choose to speed, they jeopardize themselves and others on the roads.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about a third of fatal automobile accidents are caused from excessive speed or are speed related. There is also a correlation between speeding and alcohol consumption. Speeding is involved in more weekend and nighttime fatal motorist accidents than any other time of the day or week.
